Nicola has been assisting financial services industry participants to carry on business in compliance with the Australian legal and regulatory framework since 2001.
A Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, Nicola spent 9 years working in-house for Macquarie’s Banking and Financial Services Group and Commonwealth Bank’s wealth management businesses, advising on all aspects of retail and wholesale advice and stockbroking businesses, derivatives, margin lending and deal origination and distribution, before starting Henderson Piper Legal in 2013. Since then she has advised wealth management and broking businesses, and bank and non-bank lenders regarding all their commercial, legal and compliance issues, with some of her recent projects including the launch of a managed discretionary account service, and assisting to bring one of Australia’s first residential mortgage-backed peer-to-peer/marketplace lenders to market. Nicola is also engaged by LexisNexis as an expert legal adviser for their Regulatory Compliance products (AFSL and ACL) and legal precedents author for their Gold Standard Precedents.
Nicola is an enthusiastic advocate for the development of personal well-being and authentic leadership, particularly for lawyers. In addition to her legal practice she coaches and mentors others seeking to live life by design and enjoy increased levels of personal and professional satisfaction while making their unique contribution to the world.
At least 3 mornings a week you will find her outdoors as the sun rises, on the beach at a boot camp session or on a beach run. Otherwise, she enjoys life’s simple pleasures, including spending time at home with her husband and daughter.
